Transcript:
Our world is changing with things like artificial intelligence, automation, and virtual reality. Our students need skills like digital citizenship, media literacy, and creativity.

But often, these skills are taught in isolation. However, there is a surprising subject that combines all of these skills in an interconnected way.

It’s journalism.

That’s right.

Journalism.

When students engage in journalism, they learn how to identify key information and engage in media literacy. Here, they improve in their critical thinking skills as they learn how to curate information.

Student journalists learn communication skills as they engage in interviews. They learn empathy and digital citizenship as they connect with an audience.

When this happens, they grow fearless and bold but also humble, as they embrace constructive criticism.

They develop a growth mindset as they engage in iterative thinking through each revision of their work. And whether they are creating videos, podcasts, blogs, or newspapers, they are developing their creative voice as they share their work with the world.
