Around the World in One Country - West Scotland

Around the World in One Country - West Scotland The west of Scotland is a whole other world waiting to be explored. Harry Potter fans can hop aboard the Jacobite Steam Train – which was used as the Hogwarts Express – and marvel at the outstanding views as you travel across the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct.

It might look like a postcard from the land of the Lord of the Rings, but iconic Glen Coe is actually only a stone’s throw away from Fort William, the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’, and a couple of hours’ drive from Glasgow. Arguably Scotland’s most famous and scenic glen, it attracts and stuns visitors from all over the world. Visit for yourself to see the sheer scale and grandeur of the surrounding landscapes and learn about the area’s turbulent past. Yes, this is what nature at its most dramatic looks lie.

Head to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park to take in the beauty of these bonnie, bonnie banks. In addition to stunning lochs, mountain views, and watersports, the area is home to 21 Munros and countless jaw-dropping views.

The Clyde Auditorium, more commonly known as ‘the Armadillo’ is Glasgow's own – unintentional – Sydney Opera House. Due to its plated shape, it has drawn countless comparisons to this iconic Australian landmark, but its designer imagined it as the interlocking hulls of a ship, referencing the proud shipbuilding history of the Clyde Valley, where Glasgow is situated.

n Ayrshire, explore the many golfing hotspots and championship courses, including Prestwick, Royal Troon and Trump Turnberry, which all boast stunning sea-facing views. Nearby you can uncover the incredible Culzean Castle and Country Park which is set in a stunning 600-acre estate and boasts opportunities for a jam-packed day out.

Next up is Galloway Forest Park. This glorious 75,000-acre woodland has a legendary reputation amongst stargazers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The park is the UK’s first designated Dark Sky Park and offers the best conditions for spotting constellations, stars and more across the night sky. Or if walking, cycling, fishing and driving through the woods takes your fancy, the Galloway Forest Park has lots to offer you.
