The NYPD estimates more than 1.5 million people will crowd Times Square for New Year's Eve. Did the cops know K-pop band BTS would be there?
Fans of the incredibly popular Korean boy band started camping out near the Crossroads of the World as early as Sunday to ensure a spot near the stage where the group will perform to bring in the new year. If you're looking to jam yourself into the reveling crowd, you may want to try another spot.
A 21-year-old from France is among those with prime seating for BTS. She tells News 4 this is her first time in New York City and she came all the way here both to see her beloved band and to experience what she described as a "once-in-a-lifetime" event -- New Year's Eve in Times Square.
Thousands of NYPD officers will be on hand to protect her and the tens upon tens of thousands of people expected to pack America's most famous place to ring in 2020. Some experts have disputed that more than a million people could actually fit in Times Square, according to the Associated Press. But either way, the number will be a sizeable one. And New York City’s counterterrorism czar expects it to be “the safest place on the planet Earth.”
