T tube enterostomy is the least invasive surgical procedure for uncomplicated meconium ileus. It allows per operative evacuation of thick inspissated meconium and post operative irrigation of gut with N acetyl cysteine or warm normal saline.
After establishment of normal bowel movement the tube can be removed with a gentle traction.
The resulting stoma closes spontaneously within a week.
