BREAKDOWN OF US-TALIBAN TALKS

Dr Sheharyar Khan says that the cancellation of talks with Taliban are not a good omen for the region. A peace deal was prepared that could have worked out for all parties. But the Taliban was not showing flexibility. They should have been more accommodating to a power sharing agreement. After all they have been fighting for years. Under the proposed deal that could not be signed, the Taliban after ceasefire were going to share power and many of Pakistan’s security concerns were also addressed in that arrangement. In fact if the talks are further stalled and military option is reiterated by the US then Pakistan will be asked to ‘do more’ and could also face more pressure from Financial Action Action Task Force
