U.S.-China trade talks resumed this week after months of stalemate, but when negotiating teams met in Shanghai on July 31, 2019, they reportedly moved no closer to striking a deal to end the conflict.
Days later, that outcome seemed to be reflected in U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that Washington would slap a 10 per cent tariff on $300 billion dollars worth of Chinese goods starting September 1.
