Today’s top stories 05.08.19; 1) Israel launched a wide-scale naval exercise in the northern Port of Haifa, with the aim of drilling “a humanitarian response to a powerful earthquake.”
2) The Islamic Revolutionary Guards have seized yet another “foreign oil tanker” over the weekend, which according to Iranian officials, the vessel ‘was smuggling fuel out of the Islamic Republic.’
3) Despite Germany’s refusal to offer the United States assistance in establishing an American-led naval coalition that aims to provide freedom-of maritime navigation in the Persian Gulf – the German Government is willing to consider a European alternative that – in Berlin’s perception: will not exacerbate tensions.
4) President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey will launch a wide-scale military operation, east of the Euphrates river in northern Syria, an area that is controlled by the Kurdish YPG militia.
