First of all, you must prioritize rhythm over everything else. Rhythm is the very basic foundation of all music and if you're not able to play with rhythm and in tempo consistently, it's going to be very difficult to not only learn how to play songs, but it will also be challenging when you ever want to play with others. You have to prioritize rhythm first if you want to get better at it.

Another tip is to learn how to play something slow and then gradually increase the speed. It's really exciting when you hear a new song and you find the chords for it and then jam along without properly learning the rhythm. A lot of the times, if you start by playing something a bit more complex, you end up not learning the rhythm properly and you can get messed up in the long run. Be sure to practice the rhythm slowly so that your muscle memory is worked and you know exactly how it feels to play something. When you're comfortable enough to play a little faster, gradually increase the speed.

There's so much to dig into in this lesson, make sure to watch until the end for all the tips!
