Thinking a lot today about white teachers in urban schools...it is so crucial to (as a white person especially) have an understanding of the psychology of supremacy, colonialism, complexes of superiority, the Jesus “savior” syndrome, etc. among other topics... To be a “woke” white person does not only mean to know what racism is and be against it...it’s a good start but not the end of the road...
And while as a person of color growing up in the states I had to learn and study cultural norms about being a white american - white teachers are not expected to do the same type of learning and research when going into communities of color to be educators...why not?
