The first thing I stopped wasting money is air, more specifically the heating and cooling of my apartment. Instead of running my heat on a comfortable 70 I run it on about 65 and I have a space heater in my office, and in the summer instead of running it on a comfortable 72 I run it on about 76 and I use a fan in my office. This saves me on my electric bill by about 10% annually.
The second thing I am saving money on is bottled water because I was drinking this only for around 2 years, and recently it occurred to me that I could just get this for next to free from the faucet.
The third thing I have stopped wasting money on is clothes, instead of buying a ton of clothes I won't wear for retail prices, I now only buy clothes on Black Friday or when there is a good sale at one of the places I tend to shop at. I now only spend around $300 per year on shoes, and clothes compared to probably close to $500 in previous years.
The fourth thing I am saving money on is food, instead of spending money at McDonalds and Cookout, I just cook at home for around $45 per week. meaning I only spend around $200 total to eat for an entire month or less than $10 per day.
The fifth and last thing I save money on investing, I recently took advantage of the Acorns student plan for $0 per month ( and I stopped investing in pretty much any funds with expense ratios above .5%. Currently, the highest expense ratio I pay is .25% with the Invesco S&P500 Low Volatility ETF (SPLV).
