The golf course is the new CLASSIC COURSE at FOREST CITY in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, just a short drive over the bridge from Singapore. This place is WORLD CLASS and I am hoping to host a Golf Sidekick event here in 2020.
Check them out here - absolutely my go-to place for rounds in Johor Bahru and driving range/practice green facilities. You will have seen my video on the Jack Nicholson course before where I showed you what scratch golf looks like on a 7400 yard course. The place is so well maintained, it makes you CRY when you reach the 15th hole knowing it's almost over. SUPERB.

I got a message from a subscriber on facebook. He suggested I play with 6 clubs, like in the old days. So I matched the loft as best I could with what I have.
It was really fun. The pressure of the driver was immediately gone. The expectation of hitting PERFECT shots was gone. The focus on managing your shots to get to distances you are comfortable with was the best part.
Playing to the correct miss was huge in this round as the green complexes are INSANE. The course seems innocuous until you hit the greens. The mounds and run off are crazy. The greens are of such high quality paspallum though that when you do get it on the green, making putts is pretty easy.
Forest City do a great job of keeping everything and I mean EVERY INCH of the playing areas in PERFECT condition. It's truly special playing here and I love it and would need to rate it as my favorite complex so far.
I made a big error because I didn't quite think it through. But a 54° wedge would have been way more beneficial when managing this course. The run off around the greens means that often, you're 5-8 feet below the green and then you need to get the ball to stop as quick as possible.
I reckon with a 58° in the bag and playing the course a second time, the score would have been much better.
If you can't play certain shots, it's always best to just avoid them on the course until you can play them. Go work on them away form the course.
But for example in this round, anything under 100 yards with a 50 degree wedge was a disaster because the greens are rolled and are firm firm firm so the ball wouldn't stop with a partial shot. I didn't get into the right positions and on those holes, I was punished.
I started thinking a bit more and things came right. Unfortunately I was suffering from a major cold and was on some medicine and beer which took away the sensitive skin and body aches. but they came back around the 15th-16th holes.
I can't wait to hit this course again and I must commend the designer. He has made a BRILLIANT course!!!
