Girl's tears of joy as she learns NHS has lifesaving cystic fibrosis treatment

Girl's tears of joy as she learns NHS has lifesaving cystic fibrosis treatment A schoolgirl cried tears of joy as she was told she can get lifesaving cystic fibrosis treatment on the NHS.  The Tamworth 13-year-old's mum captured the moment she was told that help was finally on its way.  Cystic fibrosis sufferer Isabelle Finn is captured bursting into tears as mum Beth Finn tells her she can have full access to drugs Orkambi, Symkevi and Kalydeco after a Government decision.   The heartbreaking clip, posted to Twitter , has now gone viral, reports Birmingham Live .  The footage shows Beth asking her daughter: "So guess what's been approved by NHS England today?"    At first Isabelle doesn't seem to remember, but then her mum probes further asking: "What have we been fighting for?"  The schoolgirl bursts into tears before receiving a loving cuddle from cousin Owen.  The news of the drugs' funding is expected to affect 5,000 other eligible cystic fibrosis sufferers.  Isabelle goes onto say "I'm so happy" and "it's so good" in response to the news she will be able to get hold of a prescription within 30 days.  Beth shared the footage to Twitter and wrote: "This is my 13yr old Isabelle. She knows CF is life limiting and she has struggled not just physically but also emotionally this year.  "Her reaction speaks a thousand words. Thank you @NHSEngland."    It comes after a "long hoped-for" deal was reached to provide the lifesaving cystic fibrosis drugs on the NHS following an agreement between manufacturer Vertex Pharmaceuticals and NHS England.  Vertex said patients will be able to access the three drugs on prescription within 30 days.  The breakthrough follows a row which dragged on for more than three years between the pharmaceutical firm and the NHS over the cost of Orkambi.  The drug is said to slow decline in lung function - the most common cause of death for people with cystic fibrosis.  NHS chief executive Simon Stevens said the deal was a "long hoped-for moment", while Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the deal was "great value for money" for the NHS.   Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said it was a victory for campaigners who "stand together and take on the powerful".  Mr Hancock tweeted: "Some wonderful news this morning: We've agreed a deal to provide Orkambi and other lifesaving Cystic Fibrosis drugs on the NHS. Huge thanks to the many campaigners who have worked so hard, and to Vertex & the NHS.  "I know personally how important this is - and I've met many sufferers. Things like this are the reason I do this job."  "For those who say the system doesn't work, this proves them wrong. We can get lifesaving drugs at a fair price, thanks to Nice and the NHS. We should all reject calls to undermine that."  NHS England said the deal was made possible by the company agreeing confidential commercial terms that constitute good value for British taxpayers.  The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) has backed the agreement, and Vertex will submit its drugs in due course for their appraisal.
