Hon Hai founder Terry Gou will soon decide on presidential bid: Japan’s Sankei Shinbum

Hon Hai founder Terry Gou will soon decide on presidential bid: Japan’s Sankei Shinbum Hon Hai Precision Industry founder Terry Gou has spoken publicly for the first time since the KMT primary about harboring presidential ambitions. Speaking to the Sankei Shimbun, Gou reportedly blurted out that he was "preparing" for the January 2020 poll. The paper''s final report said Gou would probably run as an independent and would make his final decision before the candidate registration deadline on September 17. But his office played down the report this morning, claiming it was all interpretation on the part of the Japanese news outlet. When Terry Gou, the founder of Hon Hai Precision Industry, recently accepted an interview from the Japanese media, he finally opened up, saying if he really ran in the presidential election, it would be as an independent. He would make a final decision before Sept. 17. Tsai Chin-yuYonglin Foundation deputy chief executiveAs they were talking about cross-strait relations as well as future relations with the U.S. and Japan, Mr Gou particularly stressed that if he was ever elected president, he would bring 1,000 companies to invest in America. It’s very probable that because of these remarks, the Japanese media outlet interpreted this to mean he had seemingly already prepared to stand for election. If Gou announces he will run in the presidential race, it is inevitable that this will strike a blow at the KMT’s official candidate, Han Kuo-yu. There are even fears it could trigger a split in the party. The KMT’s official stance is becoming more and more severe. The party’s Central Standing Committee has stressed that any party member who assists a presidential candidate other than Han with a serious effect will be expelled from the party. Tsai Chin-yuYonglin Foundation deputy chief executiveMr Gou has already said that if he runs in the presidential election, it will be as an independent candidate. If there are any changes in the KMT, he still will not return to the party. I believe everyone understands his position. Therefore we won’t interfere much in the KMT’s decisions. Gou, Taiwan’s richest man has still not declared his candidacy. However, these kinds of media reports are making the opposition KMT very anxious.
