Raising an alarm over the ongoing expansion of the Chinese Navy that will rapidly add warships to its fleet in the next decade, navy chief Admiral Karambir Singh said India requires at least three aircraft carriers to meet operational needs in the region.
Strongly advocating the addition of another aircraft carrier to the Indian fleet—the only operating carrier currently is the INS Vikramaditya while an indigenous carrier is under construction at Kochi—the officer said China is projected to operate up to 10 of the warships by 2049.
The navy chief’s comments come as a formal proposal to start work on the third aircraft carrier—planned to be the largest ever warship to be made in India—have not found favour with the defence ministry that has reservations on the funds required for the project.
“Our overall strategy is centred around the operation of Carrier Task Groups supported by multi-dimensional, state-of-the-art surface and air platforms… an aircraft carrier is central to INs operating philosophy… accordingly, we are pursuing induction of the third carrier to ensure we have the requisite force levels to meet all operational imperatives,” the navy chief has said in his first detailed comments on the stalled project.
2) Shaliza Dhami Is First Woman Air Force Officer To Become Flight Commander….
Wing Commander Shaliza Dhami became the first woman officer of the Indian Air Force to become the Flight Commander of a flying unit, news agency ANI reported. Flight Commander is the second in command of the unit.
Wing Commander Dhami, serving for 15 years now, has been flying choppers. She became the first woman flying instructor of the Air Force and is also the first woman officer to get permanent commission of the flying branch.
She took charge of a Chetak helipcopter unit at the Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Chetak is a single engine turbo shaft, light utility helicopter with capacity of 6 passengers and has maximum speed of 220 km/hour.
"The helicopter is suitable for commuting, cargo / material transport, casualty evacuation, Search & Rescue (SAR), Aerial Survey & MAybePatrolling, Emergency Medical Services, Off-shore operations and Under slung operations," according to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited or HAL website..
3) India’s BrahMos may test another cruise missile air-launch…
BrahMos Aerospace may conduct a second air-launch test of its supersonic cruise missile to further demonstrate the weapon’s ability to fly to a number of waypoints before reaching its final destination.
The tests would come at the earliest in November, after monsoon season in India ends, allowing better visibility to track the missile launch, Praveen Pathak, BrahMos chief general manager of market promotion and export, says at the MAKS air show in Moscow. The BrahMos cruise missile has already met India’s requirements, but the company wants to further prove its capabilities.
