Are Smart Speakers Pointless?

Smart speakers like the Echo have been around since 2014 and seemingly hit their boom in 2017 with the Google Home and eventually Apple HomePod- but those who own them honestly don't seem to use them a whole lot. This begs the question... are smart speakers pointless?
