Demolition of Didcot A Power Station northern cooling towers with 33kV flashover 18th August 2019

Demolition of Didcot A Power Station northern cooling towers with 33kV flashover 18th August 2019 Some footage of the demolition of the remaining three cooling towers at Didcot Power Station on 18th August 2019 at approx 0700. Location was in the fields between Milton Park and Sutton Courtenay, around 1000m from the towers. I kept the camera rolling to capture the dust cloud and was fortunate enough to catch the unexpected finale!

1. Demolition (approx 0:33 from start)

The sound arrives just over 3s after the first visible activity, as expected at that distance. Collapse is surprisingly fast at just 12s from start to finish. The dust cloud travels North-East towards Appleford.

2. 33kV flashover (approx 2:06 from start)

The cause may have been a flashover elsewhere, maybe caused by debris kicked up by the demolition (a flash can also be seen on the other side of Sutton Courtenay Lane). Watch everyone scatter and the lines swaying afterwards due the magnetic force of the fault current!
