Mumbai Rains: Hundreds Stranded On Board Mahalaxmi Express; NDRF, IAF, Navy Deployed

Mumbai Rains: Hundreds Stranded On Board Mahalaxmi Express; NDRF, IAF, Navy Deployed At least 700 passengers of the Kolhapur-Mumbai Mahalaxmi Express are stranded since late evening on Friday, 26 July, near Badlapur in Maharashtra’s Thane district due to flooding of tracks. Four-to-five-feet-high floodwater has been reported near Vangani station, where the train is stuck.

Heavy rains have been lashing Mumbai and its adjoining areas, which has led to flooding in several parts. The downpour has also led to traffic snarls and cancellation of several flights.

According to news agency PTI, the Maharashtra government requested the defence officials to arrange airlift of the passengers. Authorities also called in the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and sought help from the Indian Navy.

The Mahalaxmi Express left Mumbai for Kolhapur on Friday night, but could not go beyond Chamtoli.
