In a report today, the CBI had claimed that the EU had taken “fewer steps to reduce the damage of no-deal than the UK has, having taken a noticeably less generous, more limited approach to reducing the disruption of no-deal”.
Annika Breidthardt, a spokeswoman for the European Commission, rejected the CBI report, insisting that Brussels had “done our work; we are prepared”.
“We continue to believe an orderly Brexit is the best outcome for all” she said. “Our no-deal preparedness protects the EU.”
Brussels has spent the past year ramping up its no-deal Brexit preparations with a series of emergency laws designed to mitigate the impact on EU businesses and citizens in limited number of areas such as transport rights and fishermen’s access to fishing waters.
