In this video, Dr. Berg answers the question about intermittent fasting and can it reverse a poor memory from aging. The key to getting the memory, focus, and concentration back is really just to understand the basic problem and the different factors that relate to it. Certain areas in the brain make insulin which also the same areas that are involved when you have cognitive problems like Alzheimer’s.

• Hippocampus – memory, and learning
• Prefrontal Cortex: Planning, Decision Making, Goals, Differentiate, Trivial vs. Important, Consequences, Short Term Memory, Selective Attention
• Olfactory Bulb – Sensation of Smell

Blood-Brain Barrier can develop insulin resistance. If there’s too much insulin, the body protects it by developing insulin resistance around the blood-brain barrier. The end result of these problems is the start of developing a condition called amyloid plaques, a type of protein that stuck together in that makes the protein unusable and has a hard time leaving the body.
Fasting is one of the most powerful things you can do to avoid amyloid plaques. 16 hours of fasting the body start the process of autophagy (the body starts eating up damage and misfolded proteins).
