Truck driver exposed to hazardous materials following a Chemical Spill

Emergency scene of the chemical spill on E 61st Street between Madison and 5th Ave around 7:09am today, in manhattan New York.
Truck driver exposed to hazardous materials with serious but not life threatening injuries, burns to hands and face, he was treated by EMS in protective suits. Hazmat was on the scene investigating and decontaminating the spill. All Hands response with Hazmat, FDNY, EMS.

Chemical spilled was Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, is a corrosive compound that may cause eye and skin burning, temporary loss of hair, and pneumonitis, according to the CDC. It's commonly used in manufacturing soaps, rayon, paper, explosives, dyes, and petroleum products.
