JOURNEY THROUGH ANCIENT PERU Ep. 2 Ancient Traditional Andean Textile Weavings

JOURNEY THROUGH ANCIENT PERU Ep. 2 Ancient Traditional Andean Textile Weavings The Peruvian Andean Weaving Tradition: In the 1940s Anthropologists in the Coyllurqui area, in the what is now known as the Paruro Communities of the Peruvian Andes, #Peru, realized tribal people wearing authentic #Peruvian Andean Textile attire and hats. They were unknown to the local district officials and so they were followed. The mysterious Peruvians lived hid away from modern civilization and still only now come out to sell their weavings or engage in #spiritual ceremonies. I was filming the Coca Leaf Ceremony and I noticed the Andean Weavings on the ground. I myself collect weavings from all around the World and I indeed already had some Ancient Andean Weavings, so I was familiar with them and proceeded to interrupt every one packing up and ask a few questions about the weavings. The story was interesting that Jorge told and I understood about Beneto and Tia much better; their mannerism and traditional attire. I have added some historical photographs to aid in your comprehension of the topic matter. Filmed on location in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Ollantaytambo, Peru. Textile Weaving has been at the core of Peruvian Culture since 2500 BCE. Their Weavings serve culturally and spiritually, shaping communities, personal attributions, communication and ceremonies. Without the woven record, the Peruvian identity would be lost.

Weavings are a woven art form language that are passed down generations after generation, much like that of Oral Traditions. Personal and Civic events were woven into the textiles, along with important Historical markers and personal Family information.

There are those who hold and live by Tradition.
The Traditional Andean Culture of Peru is in jeopardy.
By helping organizations out that support trade
with local traditional hand weavers,
this helps support their lives
and helps preserve the
Peruvian Andean Weaving Textile Tradition.
