Don't share your life insurance policy details with strangers over the phone. Know how to identify and protect yourself from fraudsters and get your #LifeGoalsDone successfully.
Scam artists are always looking for ways to snatch your hard-earned money away from you. Life insurance scams are on the rise, most of which takes place over the phone. Picture this example - you receive a call from someone claiming to be a representative from your life insurance company. They say that they will upgrade your ULIP plan for you that'll help you gain higher returns. All you need to do is transfer an amount to a specific bank account. Don't fall for such scams. Protect yourself from such fraudsters by following the given Dos and Don’ts –
1. Dos
a. Read your life insurance policy brochure carefully before investing. Visit your life insurance company's website to know all the features and benefits of your preferred life insurance plan.
b. Once purchased, go through the life insurance policy document carefully and verify every little detail (personal information, policy details, charges associated with your policy, terms and conditions etc.)
c. If you're purchasing a life insurance policy through an agent/broker, ask for their ID proof, and contact details. Cross-check with the IRDAI website, and use the Agent Locator feature to verify the details provided by the agent.
d. If you receive an unauthorised transaction communication via SMS, phone or e-mail, report it to your nearest police station, insurance company or the regulatory authority immediately.
e. If you make premium payments via cheque, mention your policy number on the back side and ensure that you always get a receipt while paying your premiums irrespective of the mode of payment.
2. Don’ts
a. Never submit original documents like PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Passport etc. to people claiming to be representatives from your life insurance company without vetting them first.
b. Do not respond to spam callers who pose to be representatives of the IRDAI or your insurance provider as they may mislead you to make additional payments (over and above your existing premium amount) by promising you high rewards and bonus on your existing insurance policy.
c. Do not share your website login information or any credentials related to your policy details over the phone to anyone.
d. Don't issue blank cheques for any financial transaction. We recommend making premium payments through your official life insurance providers website or by visiting branches.
Follow these basic guidelines, and you'll never be taken for a ride. Don't let scammers get in the way of getting your #LifeGoalsDone.
