What is the difference between hardwood flooring versus laminate flooring? Hardwood flooring is exactly that, a floor that is made out of hardwood.

An engineered hardwood floor has a veneer of hardwood on top of a substrate and it is safe to glue to a concrete slab. In the event of laminate flooring, basically what you are buying is sawdust, glue and a photograph. Now, while it may appear to look like hardwood flooring it is certainly not hardwood flooring.

Looking at the difference from a cost standpoint, laminate flooring is always going to be cheaper. However, from the standpoint of adding value to your home, the hardwood floor brings value to your home while the laminate floor does nothing different than your carpet does in the house.

Consequently, you are adding value with wooden floors and you are adding nothing with a laminate floor.
