Brita Haycraft on the origins of CELTA

Brita Haycraft on the origins of CELTA CELTA stands for the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults and it is the English Language Teaching industry standard for teacher training and teacher training qualifications.

John and Brita Haycraft, the founders of International House, were the pioneers who began training teachers with a course that later on took the shape and form of the CELTA. We are very proud to be the place of origin of the CELTA teaching qualification.

But how did the CELTA come into existence in the first place?

What were those first steps, which were taken to form the initial training course at IH and what was the incentive for it?

Brita Haycraft answers these questions in this video while she talks about the CELTA origins, back in the 1960s and before it was called the CELTA.
